UNS Standard Designation:

UNS (Unified Numbering System) is a unified numbering system used to identify metal alloys. The UNS designation for these two alloys is:

CuNi 90/10: UNS C70600

CuNi 70/30: UNS C71500

These designations are widely used in industry standards, such as ASTM, ASME, to accurately designate the alloy type in engineering and manufacturing applications.

1. CuNi 90/10 (UNS C70600)

Copper Nickel UNS C70600 also has another designation, Cuni 90/10. It is an alloy containing 90% copper and 10% nickel, along with small amounts of other metals such as iron and manganese to enhance corrosion resistance in seawater environments.

Properties: Cuni 90/10 has good corrosion resistance, especially in seawater and mild chemical environments. This alloy is also resistant to abrasion and corrosion from seawater.

Applications: Because of its corrosion resistance, it is a popular choice in the marine industry, as well as in industrial applications that require high strength and corrosion resistance such as ship components, heat exchangers, valves, pumps, and other underwater components...

Advantages: - Cheaper than Cuni 70/30

- Good corrosion resistance if used in slow-flowing seawater environments.

- Easy to process and weld

Disadvantages: Corrosion resistance is reduced if used at high temperatures and in fast-flowing seawater environments.

2. CuNi 70/30 (UNS C71500)

Cuni 70/30 is an alloy containing 70% copper (Cu) and 30% nickel (Ni), also containing iron and manganese, giving it higher strength and corrosion resistance than CuNi 90/10. The high nickel content increases corrosion resistance and mechanical strength.

Properties; Cuni 70/30 has very high corrosion resistance, especially in seawater and other corrosive environments, and this copper alloy also has higher hardness and tensile strength than Cuni 90/10 copper.

Applications: UNS C71500 is often used in the oil and gas industry such as in offshore platforms due to its ability to withstand harsh seawater environments, as a material for components in nuclear or thermal power plants, or for applications in highly corrosive chemical processing equipment...

Advantages: - Superior corrosion resistance in fast-flowing seawater and high temperature environments

- Higher mechanical strength than Cuni 90/10 copper

- Better resistance to biological abrasion

Disadvantages: - Higher cost than Cuni 90/10 copper due to its high Nickel content.

- Lower thermal conductivity, less suitable for some high-performance heat exchange applications.
