A2017 Aluminum Alloy | EN AW 2017A is an alloy specified in the European standard EN 573-3, which is a heat-treatable alloy with significant additions of copper. This material combines high strength with excellent fatigue resistance. However, aluminum a2017 (en-aw2017) has good corrosion resistance but poor weldability due to the corrosion of resistive properties. This alloy is only recommended for welding by technical resistance welding. With high strength, ductility and excellent formability, it is often used in high-strength structural components, automotive parts, rivets, bolts and screws and aerospace components. If comparing aluminum a2017 with aluminum a2011, it also has higher strength than aluminum a2011.

Main characteristics of EN AW 2017A aluminum alloy sheet material (Jis A2017P):

1. Chemical composition:

Aluminum (Al): Is the main component

Copper (Cu): Accounts for about 3.9-5.0%, this is the main element that helps increase the strength of the alloy.

Manganese (Mn) & Silicon (Silicone): The content of these 2 elements is only added in very small amounts with the main purpose of improving the mechanical properties and increasing the machinability of the aluminum alloy

2. Mechanical properties:

Excellent tensile strength: Aluminum a2017 or EN AW 2017A has high tensile strength, making it suitable for applications requiring high load-bearing capacity.

Poor weldability: Although this aluminum alloy has high strength, the weldability of aluminum a2017 cannot be as good as aluminum alloys such as a5052, a5083, a6061...
