What is Nitronic Steel:

Nitronic® 60 (Fermonic 60, UNS21800) is an austenitic stainless steel with extremely useful physical properties, particularly resistance to wear and corrosion. It is therefore specified for a number of demanding applications despite its modest corrosion resistance and strength compared to alternative alloys. Compared to other stainless steels, the composition of Nitronic 60 is distinguished by its significant addition of both manganese and silicon. While manganese is used in other alloys to improve strength, here it significantly improves surface properties when combined with silicon.

Nitronic® 50 (Xm-19, Uns20910) is a nitrogen-enhanced austenitic stainless steel. It offers almost double the yield strength of conventional austenitic stainless steels such as Alloy 304 and Alloy 316L, allowing for reduced section sizes, thus reducing weight and cost. Higher strength can be achieved through cold working. Importantly, it remains fully austenitic – and therefore completely non-magnetic – even after severe cold working.
